A boring no picture post, I apologise. I just need some assistance right now. I promise there will be photos to come!

Issue #1: Being the most time sensitive, I should address this first. I'm visiting in upstate New York and am flying out from JFK this Sunday the 10th back to London where I'm living. I was hoping I could find a friendly sofa to crash on for just Saturday night. :] I know it's last minute, but I really am courteous and respectful.. i.e. not a douchebag.

Issue #2: I've been studying for my undergraduate degree in London for the past semester and I just cannot work with the UK educational system. It's too strict and narrow. So now, I'm looking for other options come Fall. Most likely going to a liberal arts school, wherever that may be. Give me your suggestions for colleges/universities and also areas to live. I want a school/location where I can meet likeminded (artsy/gender fluid) people.

deep cleaning for long dreads-I'm doing it right?
So today I took my hair down and got a whiff of something musty/sweaty/unusual/idk. I just washed a few days ago, maybe something isn't dry inside, thought everything feels dry, but I remember hearing that any dreads that smell need a deep clean. This is just a weird smell, too. I keep thinking, Mildew though I don't see anything weird... it's a sweat and mildew combo or something and I catch the odour at the roots moreso than at the ends. At any rate, I'm deep cleaning tomorrow but want to run things through:

Recipe:

Large bowl of warm water
3/4 c of baking soda
20 drops of tea tree oil
4T of lemon juice
2T of salt
Stir until all is well dissolved
Dunk all dreads in until completely saturated, then wrap in a plastic bag to keep the mixture in and let sit for 1/2 hour to 1 hour

Since I have a lot of (long) dreads, should I adjust the recipe for gallons (since something like a mop bucket is what I'll hafta use), I let my dreads soak everything up, wrap them in a bag and sit for an hour or so (as the memories suggest)? I'm looking for those with long dreads to assure me this is the practical way to accomplish this. Why I'm not seeing this process right, idk.

Its dark, but I figured ya'll would like to see one of the kitties favorite play things, my hair. Piaget (and possibly her unnamed sister-Gestalt just doesnt seem right for a girl) come home Friday :)

2 months, tams, and dreadbands
2 months old now! More like two and a half, but I just found my camera so its time for a late update. They're coming along great, I have crazy loops everywhere. I resectioned a bit on the side and am debating on doing it in the back as well, but overall I'm so much happier with this set than my last.

boyfriends one month time line
i gave my bf dreads about a month ago. there is a picture of him in the bathtub. but you cant see any nipple or ass or anything.
we are interested in naughty knotty... he is working on my dreads. i only have about 6. so ( here ) is the lil' timeline.
he has about 108 dreads. some are very tight. some are not so tight...but they are tighter than they look in the last pictures (the ends are tighter than loose hair) and they are all very beautiful and loved very much!
he is pretty good with a crochet hook. he did 2 in the front. enjoy for now. more will come later.

About 4 months now?
Happy new year GUDU! 2009 brought me everything I wanted and some things I never needed [like probation ):], but all in all, it was one of the best years of my life. I fell in love, got my dreads back, turned 21, had so many firsts, so many amazing experiences ... the ups I will remember more than the downs, for sure.

billie_dove. i rarely ever posted under that name so i doubt anyone would recognize my dreads anyway. but ya never know!

at the end of this month, my dreads will officially be three years old. i know i'm posting a little early but they won't be changing much between now and then, so lets just pretend.

Happy New Year!
I'm a bit over 3 months now with my dreads and the last month they've really matured. I wanted to wait til I got pictures of my friends that are more entertaining than just me, but I don't know if I'll ever see them and I don't have a little camera of my own sooo sorry but they're boring ole pictures of just me and my hair. and some mushrooms! :D

Also! Congratulations to me! I just graduated college!!! :D:D after 20 years of my life spent in school, I'm STOKED. I'm gonna WOOF for 3 months now somewhere, most likely Mexico or Belize cuz its so cheap to fly there. Anyone have experience with WOOFING?

Easiest Dreadsleeves EVER.
So my friend's aunt TT gave me a pair of gloves for Christmas that were about 3 sizes to small for my fingers. Today I went ahead and cut the ends off so I could wear them and, Lo! inspiration struck.

All I did was take one of the ends I'd snipped off, cut the tippytop off and took a lighter to both ends so the fibers don't unravel. TADA!

Dreadpermed dreadies
Hey guys. This is mainly directed at those who have had dream perms before, but if you have any insight otherwise let me know, too! So, I got my dread perm a little over 5 months ago and after the first few months my dreads started to lock up really nicely, but recently (in the last week) a few of them are starting to just completely fall apart. The tightness is gone, and they're turning into these little soft fuzzy dry things that look and feel exactly like they did when I first got them done. WHAT THE HELL? Has this happened to anyone before? Here's a photo of one that's doing particularly bad.

Have any of you had an issue with the sheer weight of your hair? My mom says I can do whatever I want but usually does this guilting process when she doesnt like things. I have a very sensitive head and due to hormone treatments my hair is fine (not thin, but fine) and she said the weight of the dreads themselves would aid to my heads sensitivity and hurt all the time. I said that this can't be so because thick long hair has to be pretty heavy too, but it got me thinking:

Have any of you experienced extreme discomfort with your dread's weight and has it changed any sensitivity issues with your scalps?

If its a weird question or doesn't make sense, I can reiterate and answer any confusions at my wording.

I know I just recently posted, but I took a better picture of my actual dreads. :)

Dread Nostalgia after 8 1/2 weeks?!
Ok, so the state of puffy-fluffy-not-quite-locs in my icon...? I really, kinda freaking miss it.

On the other hand my dreads are doing some seriously-what-the-fuck-are-you-doing-LOL stuff, so it's kinda ok...

... But I do still miss the sheer VOLUME of the puffy fluff...

(like my over-use of ellipsis? Yeah, it makes me gag a little, too. [but the Swiss beer in my belly says it's ok.])

15 months
it's been a while. i couldn't be happier that last year is over. but this year is a new beginning. a fresh start.

i found out this morning that we lost two of our accounts. i work for a cleaning company, and we clean office buildings. so now we'll only have one. and my boss is firing a few people. luckily, i've been there long enough that i'm keeping my job. but it still sucks.

and i was working at the Christmas Tree Shops, but unfortunately i was only hired as seasonal help. Saturday was my last day. so i'm on the job search once again. but i'm staying positive, and taking life as it comes at me. i have very good feelings about this year! :]

and i noticed that i have 2 or 3 small dreads that have formed naturally from the loose hair between dreads. i absolutely love them! they're so cute! i'm also thinking about splitting a couple of fatter ones i have in the back. but i'm totally unsure at this point. just a thought.
